The difference between IT recruitment and IT secondment

When you, as a manager, are looking for a specialist for your department, you can find and deploy them in various ways. How you do this depends on your needs. IT recruitment and IT secondment can help you with this. In this blog, we explain what best suits your search.

What is IT recruitment?

With IT recruitment, you outsource the entire recruitment and selection process to an external agency. The agency will look for professionals who match your wishes and needs. For this, they select the most suitable professionals, and the client can then make a choice from this. When the client and the professional are both enthusiastic and agree to each other’s conditions, the professional will be employed by the client.

Why choose IT recruitment?

IT recruitment has many advantages for both clients and professionals. Finding new staff can be quite a search and can cost you as a client a lot of time, work, and money. Even for a professional, it can be quite a task to find the right employer.

Outsourcing the entire process can be a good solution to make this process easier. After all, a specialized agency has the knowledge, experience, and network to quickly find a suitable professional for a client. They know how to follow the right paths to achieve quick results. In a market where there is a lot of scarcity, such as the IT sector, this can save a lot of time and costs.

What is IT secondment?

With IT secondment, a client temporarily hires professionals from a secondment agency. The duration of the deployment depends on the duration of the project on which the specialist is working. During this period, the professional remains employed by the IT secondment agency.

Why choose IT secondment?

Secondment has many advantages. One of the most important is that you quickly acquire your specific knowledge by hiring professionals. These specialists are often available at short notice and can provide support and resolve outstanding issues. This way, your IT department will not come under pressure.

In an earlier blog about IT secondment, we described how secondment works and what the benefits are for clients. If you want to know more about secondment, you can read more here.

Is IT recruitment or IT secondment right for me?

Whether you are looking for a professional for a temporary project, or if you are looking for a professional who will become a permanent part of your organization, determines whether secondment or recruitment is the right solution for you. Do you still have doubts about recruitment and secondment? Maybe a seco-fixed construction is something for you.

The benefits of IT secondment for employers

You are looking for IT professionals who can (temporarily) strengthen your department. You find it important that these professionals are quickly available and can achieve measurable results in the short term. IT secondment offers you these possibilities. But there are even more benefits of IT secondment for employers.

Benefits of IT secondment

One of the biggest advantages of hiring specialists through IT secondment is that they can often be deployed at short notice. Secondment is therefore an effective way to quickly fill in an open issue. With this you can always let your IT department perform to the maximum and continuity is guaranteed.

Secondment is an ideal solution for short or long-term projects to temporarily bring in professionals with specific knowledge. When you work with a secondment agency that specializes in IT secondment, such as G-Nius, you make use of their network. With this network and their knowledge and experience, they quickly find the right specialists who perfectly match your wishes.

Another great advantage of secondment is that interim professionals are quickly used to a new working environment. They are flexible and adapt quickly. This saves time. In addition, as outsiders, they have a fresh perspective that can provide new insights.

It is good to know that professionals who are seconded remain employed by the secondment agency. As an employer, they also run the employer’s risk, such as continued payment of wages in the event of illness or severance pay in the event of dismissal.

The benefits of IT secondment for employers:

– Quick fulfillment of temporary resource needs.

– Certainty of flexibility and quality.

– Extra support for temporary or long-term projects.

– Less financial risk.

– Temporary replacement during leave.

– Secondment creates new insights.

– Specific knowledge and skills at your fingertips.

5 soft skills for IT professionals

While mastering technical skills is essential for any position within the IT sector, strong soft skills for IT professionals are indispensable. These skills ensure that you can perform your role well and contribute to the success of an organization.

But which soft skills are really important to master as an IT professional? And how do you substantiate these skills when applying for a new IT position? We describe the 5 most important soft skills for IT professionals.

What are soft skills?

Soft skills are skills and personality traits that relate to your working method and the way you interact with other people (both professionally and privately). A characteristic of soft skills is that they cannot be directly demonstrated with, for example, diplomas or work experience. They are often closely related to your character.

Why are soft skills important?

Soft skills play a key role in understanding how a person interacts with colleagues, performs work-related tasks, communicates, and builds relationships. The way in which you carry out these matters is essential for an organization to assess to what extent you as an IT professional can successfully fulfill your role.

It is therefore important that you can indicate what your strongest soft skills are during the application procedure. A good substantiation with accompanying examples shows that you master the skills. This allows you to distinguish yourself from other professionals.

5 important soft skills for IT professionals

1.Communicate

Good communication skills are perhaps the most important soft skills. They are at the top of this list for a reason. Because everything stands or falls with communication. That is why it is important to master these skills well.

As IT professionals you often work in a team and you are in frequent contact with different parties. You must therefore be able to express yourself excellently in word and writing. It is also important that you take into account who you are communicating with and that you adjust your message accordingly. Listening is also an essential part of communication. By listening carefully to colleagues, customers, and partners, you show that you are involved and interested.

Don’t be afraid to give clear feedback. By doing this in a respectful way, you can show that you care about colleagues and customers. Ask for feedback yourself. You can see this as a reflection of your performance and use it to improve yourself.

In addition, giving a convincing presentation is a strong communicative skill with which you can show that you can transfer knowledge. Think, for example, of a pitch for a manager or a customer.

2. Collaborate

When working together well, the joint result is central. Even if as an IT professional you largely carry out your work alone, you are often part of a team. This means that you have to regularly consult with colleagues, supervisors, and customers.

By showing interest in the people you work with, you get to know them better. You may discover new interfaces that will make working together more smooth.

The basis of collaboration is listening to others. Respect the opinion and input of others and take a critical look at your own beliefs. When you realize that you can learn a lot from others, working together only becomes easier and more fun. An advantage of good cooperation is that together you can achieve goals faster and come to a solution sooner.

3. Creativity

As an IT professional you have to be original and inventive. It often happens that problems cannot always be solved with a standard approach. So you will sometimes have to think outside the box and rely on your creativity.

When you want to solve a problem, it is good to think ahead. Look at what can go wrong, consult with parties involved, collect data and analyze this data to arrive at the best solution.

4. Flexibility

A flexible IT professional has great adaptability. It is possible that you work with a deadline that you are not likely to meet. How do you deal with this, what steps do you take and what are your priorities. These steps require a flexible way of working.

It is a strength if you do not focus too much on the problem but can show that you are looking at the next steps. This also includes your creativity, communication skills and collaboration skills. It is important that you keep an eye for detail and learn from setbacks

5. Enterprising

Whether you start as a service desk employee or as a project manager. It is always good to be proactive. Take initiative and anticipate. By taking on responsibilities, you show that you are involved. You also work on your personal development.

It is good to monitor trends and developments in your field. See how you can apply these within your organization and how they affect your work. Not only now, but also in the long term.

Mention soft skills on your resume

Mentioning your soft skills on your resume is now almost indispensable. It gives you the opportunity to distinguish yourself from other professionals. But when everyone claims to have the same skills, it’s important that you make the difference. With good substantiation and an example you immediately have an advantage. Therefore, always explain in a number of short sentences why you master certain soft skills. You can do this, for example, in your profile.

What is IT seco-fixed?

Finding suitable professionals can be a difficult task. IT professionals are scarce, so finding the perfect match is often a time-consuming process.

In addition, investing in new professionals costs time and money. It is therefore important that specialists who join the team are a perfect match with the organization. With IT- seco-fixed, clients can bind qualified IT professionals for a longer period after a predetermined period of secondment. This guarantees the quality of an IT department.

How does seco-fixed work

We speak of a seco-fixed construction when a professional is seconded for a predetermined period. After this period, the client is given the opportunity to take over the professional.

The professional will therefore leave the employment of the secondment agency after the secondment period and enter the employment of the client.

This construction has two important advantages for clients, namely; no long-term commitments at the start and the professional can be assessed over a longer period of time.

Advantages of IT seco-fixed

– Fast filling of vacancies.
– Less employer risk.
– Continuity within the department.
– The right match.
– Lower recruitment costs.
– Possibility of free takeover of a professional.

IT seco-fixed at G-Nius

When a client is looking for reinforcements for a department, G-Nius can support in making the perfect match.

We offer clients a committed approach to finding qualified IT personnel. An important element of our working method is therefore also a fixed point of contact for every client. One of our business managers will personally guide the entire process so that the right match can be made.

We always start our collaboration with an extensive introductory meeting. During this meeting, the business manager maps out all the wishes of the client. In addition to the requested ‘hard criteria’ such as knowledge and experience, we are also curious about the ‘soft criteria’ such as personal and social skills that are expected of the professional. Only in this way can we present a professional who not only meets all job requirements but who is also a good match with the team and the company of our client.

After we have a clear picture of the wishes and expectations, we look for IT professionals who perfectly match the requested criteria. We always strive for the perfect match. That is why we only propose the best profiles. When all parties are enthusiastic, the professional can start.

During the entire secondment period, we maintain regular contact with our clients to evaluate progress. We also keep in touch with our professionals. This gives us the ability to provide further support when needed.

As a secondment agency, G-Nius is a company that offers customization. We do this by fully adapting our service to the wishes of the client. Are you curious about the possibilities we can offer for your company? Please contact us via info@g-nius.nl or call +31 (0)73 610 14 69.

What does a DevOps engineer do?

The IT world is evolving faster and faster. There are many developments, including the term DevOps and the DevOps engineer position. It is a relatively new concept that combines the processes within ‘development’ and ‘operations’. This aims to bring together both development and operations within software and to increase efficiency.

The idea behind DevOps is that the rollout of software, IT systems, and processes is done by one team that consists of professionals who are also involved in the development so that everything fits together seamlessly. In this way, adjustments can be made more quickly during projects, projects can be completed faster, and the chance of errors is smaller.

The DevOps working method is an infinite cycle. This cycle consists of:

• Continuous development.
• Continuous testing.
• Continuous integration.
• Continuous implementation.
• Continuous monitoring.

But DevOps is much more than a working method, it is also a ‘state of mind’. It’s a collaborative approach to a problem that involves more than just the IT department. The finance and marketing departments are also closely involved, and clear communication is of great importance.

What does a DevOps engineer do?

Just like the term DevOps, the position of DevOps engineer has not been around that long. A DevOps engineer is responsible for smooth and efficient collaboration between both development and operations. This starts with bringing together the right professionals and letting them develop into a team where a sense of shared responsibility and involvement is essential.

The DevOps engineer focuses on operationalizing and testing developed software and is already involved in the development process for this.

Characteristics and skills of a DevOps engineer:

• Strong communication skills.
• An outward look.
• Driven in both managing IT infrastructure and developing software.
• Continuous urge to improve.
• Work well in a team.
• Has in-depth knowledge of software development through automation tools.
• Knowledge of programming languages.

Where do DevOps engineers work?

DevOps engineers work for various companies, ranging from software companies, web agencies, and webshops to government, education, and healthcare institutions and the business community. They can also work at a secondment agency such as G-Nius that specializes in the mediation of IT professionals.

DevOps engineers who work for an IT secondment agency are often given the opportunity to develop further and more broadly at different clients. This allows them to gain more experience within various industries, with different systems, software, and hardware.

DevOps engineer vacancies

Are you a DevOps engineer looking for a new challenge? Then we at G-Nius can support you in this. We are always looking for DevOps engineers to hire them through secondment, temporary employment, or permanent employment to work on challenging projects for various clients.

IT secondment how does it work?

As a manager, you want an IT department that is always at full strength and can therefore continue to achieve optimal results. Sometimes there is a risk of a temporary shortage of IT professionals or knowledge within the company. IT secondment can then be a good solution, guaranteeing continuity within your company. In this blog we explain how IT secondment works and what the benefits are.

What is IT secondment

IT secondment means that a company makes its own IT professional temporarily available to a third party, the client. As a client, you temporarily hire an IT specialist. The professional remains employed by the IT secondment agency during this deployment. A seconded professional is therefore always certain of a fixed income.

The duration of the deployment depends on the duration of the project on which the specialist is working. It is also possible for clients to eventually hire an IT professional themselves. This can be done via a detavast construction.

When is IT secondment interesting

It may be that a lot is changing within your company. Think of large migration projects, busy periods or temporary leave of employees. As a manager, you naturally want this to have no effect on the performance of the department. Deploying IT professionals through IT secondment can be too perfect a solution for this.

By temporarily hiring specialists, you gain specific knowledge. These specialists can provide support and resolve outstanding issues. This way, your IT department will not come under pressure.

What are the benefits of IT secondment

One of the biggest advantages of hiring IT professionals through secondment is that they can often be deployed at short notice. Secondment is therefore an effective way to quickly fill in an open issue. With this you can always let your IT department perform at its best.

Advantages of IT secondment:

• Rapid fulfillment of temporary resource needs.
• Certainty of flexibility and quality.
• Extra support for temporary or long-term projects.
• Temporary replacement during leave.
• Secondment creates new insights.
• Specific knowledge and skills within reach.

Why temporarily deploy IT professionals?

It often happens that companies opt for the temporary deployment of IT professionals. Most companies choose to acquire the knowledge themselves and to offer a professional permanent employment. Yet there are situations where the deployment of an interim IT professional is more appropriate than a permanent employee. We tell you why temporary deployment is sometimes a better option.

Reasons to deploy IT professionals temporarily?

There are many reasons why a department within an organization can come under pressure. The most common reasons are reorganization, new projects, illness or temporary absence due to, for example, a pregnancy or vacation. External IT professionals can be temporarily deployed to relieve this pressure and to guarantee the continuity of a department.

Using an IT professional through secondment? These are the benefits.

A big advantage of using an IT specialist through secondment is that they are often available at short notice. This ensures that secondment is an effective way to quickly find a suitable professional.

Professionals who work through an IT secondment agency usually have a lot of experience and thus a lot of technical knowledge. In addition, they quickly get used to working in a new environment so that they can adapt well.

In addition to the benefits of knowledge and experience, there is also the employer risk that the secondment agency bears. They are responsible for matters such as payment of wages and employer contributions, training and pension. But also the continued payment of wages during illness and leave.

When a company chooses to hire IT professionals through a secondment agency, this can save a lot of time. Secondment workers generally have a large network of professionals. This gives them the opportunity to quickly propose a suitable candidate for an open vacancy.

G-Nius offers support in finding suitable IT professionals.

More women in IT

The number of women in IT is low, very low. In the Netherlands only 14% of IT workers are women. So we can say that the workplace is dominated by men. But why are so few women working in this sector? And what can we do to attract more women in IT?

Few girls choose a technical education

The basis of the deficiency is laid when choosing a study program. Unfortunately, it appears that girls are less likely to opt for a technical education. That while girls, contrary to what they sometimes think, often have a talent for STEM subjects.

The choice of a field of study is in many cases influenced by prejudices, (gender stereotyped) influences from the environment and the lack of role models. But also because of a limited image of study programs and professions in science and technology.

The biases of the IT sector

The IT sector is facing a major image problem. Among young people, but especially among women. That the sector is a man’s world is partly true. Good education is crucial to tackle this problem. By showing girls and women what functions there are within IT. The use of role models contributes to the sharing of experiences.

In addition, the focus is no longer just on hard skills. There is an increasing need for so-called soft skills, such as good communication skills, empathy and a focus on cooperation and intuition.

Forget the stereotype IT professional who spends all day behind his screen and only gets up for coffee and pizza. Nowadays software development is done in multidisciplinary teams that work closely together and consult a lot. And even communicate directly with customers and colleagues. Women usually have a natural predisposition for this and that can be an important asset.

Full-time vs. part-time

Within IT, working full-time is often still the norm. However, by young people in particular, more and more emphasis is placed on a good work-life balance. And women also usually have a greater need for more flexibility. They use this to organize their work-life balance.

By moving away from full-time working weeks and offering flexibility, an employer becomes more interesting for women. And it is more likely that women will be attracted tot he job.

A vacancy text that attracts women

Vacancy texts are judged differently by men and women. For example, women prefer terms such as specialist to expert or find the word development more attractive than management. Also adding “masculine” words like hero, rockstar or ninja does not appeal to women.

It is striking that a woman only applies when she meets 80 – 90% of the job requirements. Men, on the other hand, already apply at 50%. By focusing only on the most important requirements in the vacancy text, women can respond more quickly.

IT professions where there are opportunities for women

These women are needed IT professions that, according to the UWV, will be needed at higher vocational and university level in the coming years:Designer industrial automation

– Programmer

– Tester

– Web developer (including Java, .net, script languages)

– IT account manager

– Business analyst

– Security specialist

– IT project manager
