The difference between freelance and medium-lance lies mainly in the balance between security and flexibility. As a freelancer, you work independently and are fully responsible for finding assignments, managing your finances, and covering risks such as illness or unemployment. This gives you a lot of freedom, but also comes with uncertainties, like irregular income and limited social security.

Medium-lance combines the flexibility of freelancing with the stability of permanent employment. You remain employed by a secondment agency, which means you benefit from a fixed salary, social security, and pension contributions. At the same time, you work on a variety of challenging projects with different clients, giving you the same variety and experience that freelancing offers, without the risks.

Medium-lance at G‑Nius

At G‑Nius, we work with a 70/30 model. This means that 70% of your total revenue from the client is yours to manage, although you’ll need to take into account certain expenses that must be covered from this amount.

That 70% consists of a base salary and a variable income that you receive from us. The level of your base salary depends on your experience, age, and role. This way, you always have a guaranteed income, even during periods without an assignment or if you’re unable to work due to illness.

We are fully transparent with our professionals about the fees invoiced to our clients and what share you keep. And when the client’s hourly rate increases, you naturally benefit as well.

In principle, we take care of everything—always in consultation with you. We also arrange the assignments for our medium-lance professionals.

Keep in mind that the 70% you receive is not entirely disposable income. Employer costs, as well as expenses like a car, laptop, or phone, are covered from this share. You do, however, have influence over how much you spend. For example, by choosing a more affordable car, you can keep more income for yourself.

If you find the assignment yourself, we believe it’s only fair that you keep a larger share. That’s why the 70/30 model isn’t set in stone. Depending on the situation, we can adjust the split to 75/25 or even 80/20. This way, when you bring in your own project, you directly benefit from a higher percentage. For us, openness and fairness toward our professionals always come first.
