Medium-lance is a contract model that combines the benefits of freelance work with the security of a permanent position. You might also know it as Midlance® or the 70/30 model.

In this model, the professional is fully employed by us, and we arrange suitable assignments with clients. During these assignments, the professional remains on our payroll and enjoys all the benefits of permanent employment, such as salary, job security, and pension contributions. Additionally, the professional also enjoys some of the advantages of freelancing, like working on a variety of projects.

Medium-lance with G-Nius

At G-Nius, we work with a 70/30 arrangement. This means that 70% of your total revenue generated from your assignments is for you. You have complete control over what you do with this income, although you do need to consider certain costs that must be paid from it.

That 70% is made up of a base salary and a variable income that you receive from us. The amount of your base salary depends on your experience, age, and position. This ensures you have a steady income, even during periods when you don’t have an assignment or if you’re sick.

We are completely transparent with our professionals about the costs we invoice our clients and what you keep. This means that if the hourly rate with the client increases, you benefit from that as well.

What do you need to arrange yourself?

Basically, we take care of everything, always in consultation with our professionals. We also find the assignments for our professionals.

Keep in mind that the 70% you receive isn’t completely disposable income. Employer’s contributions, a potential car, laptop, phone, etc. need to be paid from this. However, you have some influence on how much you spend on things like a car or laptop. For example you can choose a cheaper car to have more income left.

An even higher percentage for you!

If you find the assignment yourself, we think it’s fair that you receive a higher percentage. Therefore, the 70/30 terms described above are not set in stone. In consultation with the professional, we can also arrange a split of 75/25 or even 80/20, for example if you found the assignment yourself. We can assess this on a case-by-case basis. For us, it’s important that we always deal with our professionals openly and honestly.

What is the difference between freelance and medium-lance?

The main difference between freelancing and medium-lancing lies in the level of security and flexibility. As a freelancer, you work independently and are fully responsible for finding projects, managing your finances, and covering risks like illness and unemployment. This offers a lot of freedom but also comes with uncertainties, such as irregular income and a lack of social security.

Medium-lancing combines the flexibility of freelancing with the stability of a permanent position. You remain employed by a staffing agency, which means you benefit from a fixed salary, social security, and pension contributions. At the same time, you work on various challenging projects for different clients, providing the variety and experience that is typically associated with freelancing.
