20 years of G-Nius: Historical Locations

Over the past 20 years, many things have changed, including the locations from which we have worked. This time, we look back at these special and historic locations in the center of ‘s-Hertogenbosch.

It all started over 20 years ago from an office at Gijs-Jan Deenen’s home. However, there was a need for an external location, and a new workplace was quickly found. Co-founder Walter van Dijk found a room in Gasthuisstraat in ‘s-Hertogenbosch.

Gijs-Jan: “We started working there, just the two of us, sometimes with a third person. At one point, the ground floor became available. We considered it a big investment at the time. Unfortunately, we were not allowed to make any changes, no network cabling or other modifications. The heating sometimes worked, sometimes it didn’t, and it was freezing cold.

By chance, in 2006, Gijs-Jan discovered a building on Sint Josephstraat, the old rectory next to the Orangerie. The Orangerie is an event venue in the center of ‘s-Hertogenbosch. This was also the reason why the property had been on the market for a long time. No one wanted to live next to a party venue. However, this was not a problem for G-Nius as the parties took place outside office hours.

Gijs-Jan: “I immediately called the municipality to see if the permit could be changed from residential to residential and commercial. They quickly said ‘yes.’ So, we bought it and renovated it. We had about 8 workstations in this location, and we never had any issues with the parties and events. The only thing that sometimes startled us was the sound of emptying the glass containers.

Due to growth and the need for more space, Gijs-Jan began searching for a new office location. This search didn’t last long. After a major renovation, the building on Sint Jorisstraat became the new office in 2008. It is a beautiful historic building in the heart of ‘s-Hertogenbosch with plenty of light and space.

Gijs-Jan: “I really like it here, right in the city center, yet it’s a peaceful environment to work in. Of course, parking could be more convenient right in front of the door, for example, but then you have to go to an industrial estate. But there, you miss the atmosphere, seeing familiar faces, and strolling through the city.”

We are proud of our office, and we would be happy to show it to you. So, if you’re curious about our workplace, just come by, and we’ll be glad to give you a tour.
